Ushio Epitex produced the plastic-packaged, surface-mounted SMBB1050GD LEDs to provide 1050 nm SWIR illumination at a higher power than ever before.
Available in single or multi-chip form, each 1 mm² gallium arsenide (GaAs) chip is attached to the package by way of a conductive silver-plating on a copper heatsink.
The single-chip SMBB1050GD package, with a flat silicone resin lens, has a total output power of 700 mW at 1 A (continuous wave, CW) or 1200 mW at 2 A (pulsed); however, the total radiated power can be intensified to 2000 mW, by fitting three chips on the same package with a -02 type narrow-angle lens.
Of course, your lens type can be exchanged with a number of different options to modify the intensity and distribution of the emitted radiation to your preference.
This basic construction runs throughout the SMBB family, improving heat management and various lenses suited to a host of applications.
The flat and 05 lenses spread the SWIR emission at a broader angle, producing a less-focused, lower-intensity, but with wider illumination coverage. The flat and 05 lens types deliver 230 mW/sr (milli-Watts per steradian) and 360 mW/sr respectively.
For applications requiring a highly-focused, high-intensity output, the 02 and 03 lens types tighten the radiated beam and emit the SWIR output at narrower, yet more powerful angle. The 02 lens type provides the highest intensity as the SWIR rays are crammed into an angle of ±10°, strengthening the radiant intensity to 3100 mW/sr (CW), or 5200 mW/sr when pulsed.
